Arctus scientific director, is a professor in remote sensing at the Université du Québec a Rimouski (UQAR). He has more than 20 years of experience in the field of ocean colour remote sensing. Simon worked successively for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) Canada at Maurice Lamontagne Institute, the European Space Agency (ESA-ESRIN) and ACRI-ST between 2001 and 2003. During that time, he was actively involved in MERIS commissioning phase after the launch of ENVISAT in 2002. Dr Bélanger obtained his PhD in 2006 from Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI) at the Laboratoire d’Océanographie de Villefranche (LOV), France. His research interests are broad, from atmospheric correction and bio-optical algorithms improvement to applications of remote sensing to ocean biogeochemistry in cold Arctic and sub-Arctic environments. Simon founded Arctus in 2009 to fill a gap in the EO industry in Canada, where aquatic remote sensing expertise was not well represented. Simon’s motivation is driven by the desire to offer a stimulating R&D and peaceful environment to highly quality personal (HQPs) that want to establish in Rimouski, outside big cities and in proximity to Nature.
