Projects
ARCTUS is involved in a number of projects that make intensive use of in-situ data and remote sensing imagery from various sensors. Below are some of our recent projects.

NuCoast – Arctic Coastal Erosion Monitoring & Modeling Support
The Nunavik mapping project (Atlas) is a project to map the backshore of the coast, with a focus on identifying sensitive habitats and valuable coastal areas. The work involves mapping land use and land cover across the entire Nunavik coast in northern Quebec, producing datasets that highlight areas that need protection, particularly in the case of a maritime incident such as an oil spill. The mapping was carried out using satellite data and artificial intelligence models to

Eeyousat Satellite Earth Observation Monitoring System for Biodiversity Action (SAMBA)
The SAMBA / EeyouSAT project was a Canadian Space Agency–funded initiative under the SmartEarth program. Its purpose was to develop satellite-based tools for monitoring coastal and ecosystem change in the James Bay region of Eeyou Istchee, with a strong emphasis on supporting ecosystem restoration, Indigenous-led conservation, and long-term environmental management. The main deliverables were geospatial products and monitoring services. These included bathymetry mapping, shor

Earth observation solutions for environmental monitoring of industrial port zones (2020 – 2022)
Human activities and the maritime industry can have a considerable impact on ecosystems by modifying coastal dynamics and weakening natural habitats of great ecological value. Many actors in the industry voluntarily adhere to environmental certification programs to improve their environmental performance. While in-situ monitoring methods have limitations in terms of spatial coverage, advancements in satellite remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and big data processing off
